Blas Garcia de Noriega & Antonia Gongora

After several posts on the Cañon de San Diego Jemez Land Grant in the last few weeks, there have been some questions as to the parents and also descendants of the two brothers, Francisco and Antonio Garcia who received the land grant.  I'm posting the parents for them along with their siblings that I currently have; meaning there could be more children for Blas Garcia and his wife Antonia Gongora.  There could also be more marriages for the children, but I was focusing on the land grant and then the soldiers.

Descendants of Blas Garcia de Garcia & Antonia (Molinar) Gongora

First Generation

1.  Blas Garcia de Garcia, son of Jose Garcia de Noreiga and Ana Maria Luna, was born in New Mexico and died on November 17, 1780 in Sandia Mission, New Mexico.¹  Blas married Maria Antonia (Molinar) Gongora, daughter of Miguel Molinar and Juliana Chavez, on June 30, 1755 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.² Maria Antonia was born in New Mexico and she uses both names interchangeably. 

Children from this marriage were:

                 M       i.        Soldier, Vicente Garcia de Noriega was born about 1757 in Alameda, New Mexico³ and died on May 26, 1785 in Pueblo del Paso (Killed By Apaches) about age 28.

•  Military Campaign: May 26, Santa Fe, New Mexico.⁴ Vicente Garcia de Noriega, who died in the Pueblo del Paso, on the 16th of May, he was killed by the enemy Apaches.

•  Military Enlistment: July 18, 1780, Santa Fe, New Mexico.³ Vicente Garzia de Noriega, s/ Blas Garzia de Noriega and Antonia Gongora, of Alameda.  Farmer, 5'7" tall, 23 years old, fair pink skin, straight nose, thin beard, chestnut hair, black eyebrows, dark eyes, scars at beginning of forehead and on temple above eyebrow.  Enlisted Jul 18 1780, married, signed by mark. Citation for valor against Apaches.  (885)

Vicente married Maria Gregoria Baca, daughter of Jose Marcos Baca and Maria Jaramillo, on December 26, 1774 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.⁵ Maria was born in Corrales, New Mexico.

                 M      ii.        Soldier & Interpreter, Francisco Xavier Garcia was born circa 1760 and died about 1809 (Killed by Apaches) about age 49.

•  Land Grant: 1788, Cañon de San Diego, Jemez, New Mexico.⁶ Along with his brother Antonio, granted lands known as Cañon de San Diego near Jemez Pueblo.

•  They appeared on the census in 1790 (Presidio) in Santa Fe, New Mexico.⁷ Interpreter of the Navajo Nation, Francisco Garcia, Spanish, b. NM, 30; wife Maria Fernanda, 25, one son age 10; one daughter age 6, brother age 7, male servant, M 34, his son, 4.

Francisco married Maria de Jesus Aranda Saavedra, daughter of Mariano Aranda and Juliana Tafoya, on December 3, 1777 in Sandia Mission, New Mexico.⁸ 

                 F      iii.        Maria Guadalupe Garcia was born about 1760 in New Mexico.⁹  Maria married Soldier, Antonio Jose Duran Armijo, son of Salvador Vicente Armijo and Rosa Romero, about February 27, 1773 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.¹⁰ Antonio was born about 1750 in New Mexico.⁹

•  They appeared on the census in 1790 (Presidio) in Santa Fe, New Mexico.⁹ Jose Armijo, Spanish, b. NM, 50; Guadalupe Garcia, 30; son age 14, daughter age 12.

•  Military Enlistment: October 25, 1790, Santa Fe, New Mexico.¹¹ Antonio Josef Armijo, son of Salbador Armijo and Maria Rosalia Romero, of Santa Fe, 5'2" tall and age 40.  Light chestnut hair and eyebrows, dark eyes, fair skin, aquiline nose, thin beard, mole on right side of lower lip, enlisted Oct 25 1790, married, signed, discharged Nov 22 1800 (979).

                 M     iv.        Soldier, Antonio Noriega Garcia was born circa 1763 and died before 1811.

•  Land Grant: 1788, Cañon de San Diego, New Mexico.¹² Along with his brother, was granted the land known as Cañon de San Diego, near Jemez Pueblo.  The alcalde, Antonio de Armenta put him in possession with Francisco Garcia de Noriega.

•  They appeared on the census in 1790 (Presidio) in Santa Fe, New Mexico.¹³ Jose Antonio Garcia, Spanish, b. NM, 27; wife Maria Gutierrez, 16, two daughters ages 4, 1; one male servant, M, 25.

Antonio married Maria Francisca de la Trinidad Gutierrez, daughter of Jacinto Gutierrez and Maria Andrea Baca, on September 26, 1785 in Sandia Mission, New Mexico.¹⁴ Maria was born circa May 1771 in Sandia Mission, New Mexico¹⁵ and died after July 10, 1798 in Cañon de San Diego, Jemez, New Mexico.

                 F        v.        Maria de la Luz Garcia was born circa March 1763 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.¹⁶ 

                 M     vi.        Jose Blas Garcia was born on February 12, 1767 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.¹⁷ 

                 M    vii.        Juan Blas Nepomuceno Garcia¹⁸ was born circa September 1768 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

General Notes: Likely the Juan Blas Nepomuceno Garcia in the Cañon de San Diego Land Grant, along with his two brothers.

                 M     ix.        Salvador Manuel Garcia was born circa March 1774 in Alameda, New Mexico.²⁰ 

                 M      x.        Soldier, Jose Manuel Garcia was born about 1777 in New Mexico.²¹ 

•  Military Enlistment: February 27, 1798, Santa Fe, New Mexico.²² Josef Manuel Garcia, s/ Blas Garcia and Maria Antonia Gongora, of Alameda, farmer, 5'2" tall, 18 yrs, black hair and eyebrows, dark eyes, aguiline nose, average beard, enlist 27 Feb 1798, service record, discharge 15 Oct 1813 (1019).

Jose married Maria Antonia Baca, daughter of Diego Antonio Baca and Juana de la Cruz Sans Garvisu, on June 27, 1801 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.²³ Maria was born about 1784 in New Mexico.²¹
